IMS should attempt to display all of the concept cars during the Indy 500, if possible by parading the cars around the track (even if on a trailer) before the race, or by having a special stationary display near the Museum or infield.

Displaying the proposed cars would be a huge fan attraction.]]>

<![CDATA[Meeting Drivers?]]> http://www.indy500.com/talkback/post/7922-Meeting_Drivers_#post7922 I have had to get all of my autographs in offical settings or being in the "right place at the right time". Not had the chance to go into the pits/garage until now.

An example of why I'm interested:

In 2004 we had infield camping at the Chicagoland NASCAR race.
- As a 14 year old I was able to muster out five autographs.
- My dad had garage passes and FILLED three hats entirely with autographs.

I'm dying to meet some of the IRL guys / girls, I've never had the chance to!

I'm unfimilar with Indy and the best way to go about getting the best chance for an autograph, so I need you help!!

Thanks!]]>

I'm a bit confused by the lack of detail being provided.
Pole day is one day and bump day is the next day...easy enough to understand.
But what if a driver gets into an accident during qualifying?
I seriously doubt they would be automatically cleared from a health standpoint, to get back in the car. The IRL is taking a serious risk not having some of the high-profile drivers in the event.
How about the many fine drivers that are not in the top, big budget teams?
Say the are in a minor accident and their cars can't be repaired on time and they don't have a T-car to jump into? Is that it for them? (Other than praying that they can jump into another teams T-car before the gun goes off on bump day?)
Are we barely going to get 33 cars into this field?...and if we do, are the people in row 11 going to be averaging 20 mph less than the pole sitter?

Hey and by the way....increase the damn SPEED. The pole position speed going DOWN from 2008 to 2009 was a disgrace! Look at the speeds in '95 and '96 and again in '02 and '03...all over 231 mph (233+ in '96) and in 2009 we get 224+???? WHY???]]>

The Speedway just needs lights period and this single weekend of qualifying and the fact that it rains during May in Indianapolis would be a good excuse to do it.

That's a good idea (not that the IMS would implement it!) about having lights put up around the Speedway. I come in from the East Coast and have to deal with airlines and hotels reservations...only to have the possibility of race day potentially rained out. Even though they moved the race from 11 am to 1 pm, if the race could be held under lights that would be a load off my mind every May.]]>

Looking at the photos of the new 2010 Indy 500 Pace Car makes me think my old Camaro sure could use a younger sister for company, especially in a such a similar paint scheme. Here's to hoping that Chevrolet and IMS will work out a plan to make replicas of the 2010 Pace Car available to the rest of us.

See ya in the Northwest Vista in May.]]>

Thanks.
At some point you actually wonder what Indy management is thinking (and I will always think highly of them regardless). But despite Tony Kanaan's accident last year, mechanical failures are way down from what they use to be years ago so I guess that's not a reason.
In 1995 and '96 when speeds were up, Stan Fox had a bad crash on the start, but he took his car down into the grass ....Scott Brayton tragically had a tire blow out in '96... so you think it's based on those 2 incidents that they made the speeds go down?...What do you think is the reason?

Regrettably, I think Indy management is more concerned with "commercial success of the product" than with the real racing fan.]]>

Looks at the speeds they were driving in 1995-'96! These are the best drivers in the world.
It's almost heartbreaking to see the stands virtually empty during qualifications, but I definitely know of one factor.
